Basic Wedding Checklist

As our first post we thought it would be great to provide a basic checklist to achieve the perfect wedding. So no matter which crazy theme you choose the following to do list will guide you along the way.

12 Months Before

Wedding style or colors
Budget
Choose wedding date
Choose wedding dress


Get in wedding day shape
Interview wedding caterers


9 – 11 Months Before
Find wedding reception location
Find ceremony official and site
Start guest list
Put together your bridal party, groomsmen, ring beer and flow girl
Find wedding florist
Reception band or dj
Tent or lighting rental if necessary
Think of wording for invitations
Start a wedding registry at favorite stores


6 - 8 Months Before
Brides maid dresses
Make to do list for brides maid and grooms mad
Book honey moon?
Arrange music for ceremony
Pick wedding cake


Find pictures of hair styles
Book hotels for out of town guest
Start planning rehearsal dinner
Finalize caterer and dinner menu
Look into Reception centre pieces
Research and purchase wedding insurance
Order wedding invitations

4 – 5 Months
Finalize what grooms men are wearing
Find a calligrapher in the area
Choose and reserve all wedding rentals like chairs and tables
Buy or rent tux for groom
Book rehearsal dinner site
Book hotel room for wedding night
Make all honey moon travel plans
Send invitations out at 3 months prior

2-3 Months Before
Shop and purchase wedding bans
Put together wedding beauty plans like at the spa
Buy wedding favors
Talk to maid of hour about bridal party, bachelorette party and bachelor party
Order alcohol for bar
Arrange wedding day transportation

6 Weeks Before
Start writing ceremony program
Work on vows
Submit new paper wedding announcement
Hair trial hair appointment
Attend bachelor party
Buy gifts for wedding party


3-4 Weeks Before
Buy guest book
Send out rehearsal dinner invitations
Get marriage license and get all official documents done
Finish & Print ceremony programs
Work on “must play songs”
Work out wedding day timing and details
Have hair and makeup trial runs
Pick up dress and get garter
Start thank you notes
1-2 Weeks Before
Put together reception seating plan
Prepare wedding thanks or toasts
Shop and back for honey moon
Groom get hair cut
Put together wedding day overnight bag

Day Before
Get mani and pedi 


Confirm honey moon travels
Have someone drop off guest book and pen at reception site
Put everything together and set aside – dress shoes..
Sleep
Have fun and relax at rehearsal dinner
Set alarm
Day Of
Take a moment to thank parents and tell them you love them
Take a moment after ceremony to exchange gifts and congratulatory kiss
Confirm with people you expect to give /lead toasts at reception

  2. Love this! Great ideas and very informational. Every girl can look to this blog and get ideas of their dream wedding and how to organize themselves for the next year or so. Since we know most brides become bridezilla when things go wrong, hopefully they can feel some relief when they read this.

  6. I think this check list is a great idea. Every bride and groom should have this list or one similar to this to keep track and follow. I think its a great way to keep track of everything such as payments, deadlines, and over all stress. I believe that if this check list or one similar is created a year 12months prior to the wedding and is followed the wedding itself will be less stressful and more organized. And everyone knows orginzation is key in weddings.

    I think this was a great idea for a blog. I has almost everything you need in one spot. Instead of the bride or groom searching from website to website they can vist this blog and find great ideas, tips, etc all in one place. Keep up the great work. Very creative!
